Why are there no lights provided by the Q.L.D.C. at Wanaka Skate Park ? good question , there are alot of users of this facility that work during the hours of 9am-5pm 7 days a week and by the time alot of these tax paying citizen's finish work it's too dark (during winter mostly)to use Wanaka Skate Park !
Not to mention that Wanaka is a town who's economy thrives due to the amont of New Zealand & International tourists that visit, most of New Zealand's Skate Parks have lights along with the rest of the world. If somebody seriously got hurt at Wanaka Skate Park because there is no lights who is liable & would it be a case of negligence on the landowners behalf ?
There are many more reasons why Wanaka Skate Park should have lights another being that it would give the youth a place to gather on friday & saturday evenings/nights & help reduce underage drinking , crime etc etc. Lights would help reduce the amount of glass that is smashed in the park by drunk citizens that use Pembroke Park as a short cut to an from the bars & clubs in Wanaka . Also i'd like to add that even with public toilets next to Wanaka Skate Park , citizens sometimes deposit feces in Wanaka Skate Park.
So instead of waiting till somebody is seriously hurt due to the lack of lighting at Wanaka Skate Park we the Undersigned (users of Wanaka Skate Park) would very much like to see the Q.L.D.C. provide lighing so that Wanaka Skate Park is safe to use at night.

- Dunedin skatepark for example doesnt have much going for it except the fact that it is lit up all night.. lighting should be a key component of the proposed expansion of the wanaka skate & bike park

- Absolutely essential, especially during the peak ski season months. The park becomes so crouded during daylight hours, it simply becomes hazerdous.

- I agree with the points mentioned. Lights at the skate park would be a great crime deterrant and young people would get more use out of this great asset to the town.

- Wanaka skatepark needs lights for the safety and enjoyment of the skatepark during winter months and when there is not much light to ride.
