For the last week New York's Hot 97 has been running a hideously unfunny and offensive skit named the "Tsunami Song," that ridicules the victims of the Tsunami as "chinks" whose children will now be sold into child slavery. It's being played on the station's morning show, hosted by Miss Jones.
Here are some choice lyrics:
"..All at once you could hear the screaming chinks
and no one was safe from the wave
there were africans drowning, little chinamen swept away
you could hear god laughing, "swim you bitches swim"
So now you're screwed, it's the Tsunami
you better run or kiss your ass away, go find your mommy
I just saw her float by, a tree went through her head
and now the children will be sold to child slavery..."
We the undersigned are disgusted by this blatant display of racism and insensitivity to a world tragedy. We asked that the world community join in expressing our displeasure to HOT 97 and its parent company, Emmis Communications. We find that their responses to our numerous emails have been lackluster and unimpressive compared to the amount of ignorance they so proudly displayed and purported as comedy.
We would also like to make the companies that choose to give their advertising dollars to Emmis Communications and its affiliates aware of the type of company they are supporting and how their advertising dollars are being spent, and more importantly how their target audience perceives this ordeal.

- i am both disgusted and repulsed by the fact that the same radio station that plays hip hop music which is supposed to be looked at as the language of diversity for todays society of young people as well as older people would have the audacity to allow this to be played....werent star and buckwild dropped from the station for making fun of Alliyah's death and now you are gonna make fun of the deaths of over 100 thousand people and do it with racial slurs? this is a shame

- It`s a shame a major radio station in the tri-state area would air such nonsense. In their attempt at humor they`ve managed to degrade and disrespect the memory of hundreds of thousands of people. Hot 97...the same radio station that ran sensitive airtime coverage of 9/11 in the aftermath of the attack now stoops so low for ratings that they mock and proudly degrade the hurt and suffering of people who mainly lived in poverty stricken villages. Would they laugh if a radio station made a similar parody about 9/11 with jokes about family and friends jumping out of skyscrapers? Or maybe a catchy little jingle about dead policemen and firemen burned alive trying to rescue people? Is their death not enough that for the sake of a few laughs and ratings their souls have to be ridiculed and spit at? Not to mention the tsunami killed more than 10x the amount of people compared to 9/11 and in low income areas where it will take decades to fix the destruction. With material like this, I will purposely avoid Hot97

- If this were an "American" tradgedy, would Hot97,Emmis Communications, and the Morning Show crew be so quick to make light of 225,000 dead people and countless living victims who are still in the throes of this natural disaster? I am disgusted and appalled by the lack of sensitivity to the Tsunami victims, but also to those within Hot97 target audience who are complaining. The public does not approve of this "skit/jingle/song." Why would you continue to play it and alienate your audience?

- Shocked and confused as to how Miss Jones would allow somthing like this on her morning show. This makes her a hypocrite. Star making fun of Aaliyah on the morning show was upsetting to her, how could this be funny to her?
