We, the undersigned, petition the California State Senators to sponsor a bill which would give parents the primary voice in the classroom regarding critical decisions that affect our childrens well-being. Specifically, the decision whether multiples be separated or stay together in the classroom.

A similar bill, known as the Twin Bill, has already been signed into law in Minnesota by Governor Tim Pawlenty. This law gives parents the primary voice in the classroom regarding placement of their multiple children.

As parents, we believe that separating twins and higher order multiples because they are multiples is discriminatory and therefore unacceptable. Multiplicity is a birthright and the decision to separate or keep the children together within the classroom should be determined on a case by case basis, based upon the childrens individual needs, by those who best know the needs of those children.

We believe as parents/guardians of multiples that we best know our childrens individual needs and should have the primary voice in any classroom placement decision made for them.

    • I believe that a mother knows her children best and knows whether they will benefit by being together or apart. Leaving this judgement up to legislators or school administrators is a violation of a parent's right to choose the best learning environment for their children.
