On Thursday 3/26/09, TN Rep. David Hawk encouraged local election commissioners to replace current Administrator of Elections Sarah Bailey with a Republican now that the party has secured a majority in the state's General Assembly.

Just because the local Republicans have the option of changing the administrator, it doesn't mean it should be done and local residents should not be dictated to by Nashville politicians. Sarah Bailey should be kept in her current capacity! She has been doing a GREAT job!

Let's show our support to keep Sarah Bailey as Unicoi County Administrator of Elections!

    • As Sarah Bailey's baby brother, I find this bothersome of a political level as well as a very personal level. There has never been negativity spoken of Sarah in her role as administrator of elections and to oust her just because of a party change is ludacris and completely irrational and should irk any American to the bone, especially when she is doing such a great job.

    • It is sad that this issue seems to be purley of a political nature. For years, while the Democrats held control of the TN legislature, Virgina Booth, a Republican, was the Election Administrator. Why is this position now becoming a political partisan issue?

    • First off, I'm from Greene County, not Unicoi, so I shouldn't sign--but I have a unique perspective. I was David Hawk's opponent this past year. I had to file my paperwork to run as a candidate through Sarah Bailey's office, and I called the Election Commission a couple of times during my campaign to ask for clarity on a couple of technical issues. In all of my interactions with Sarah Bailey, she was nothing but professional and she was more than fair to Rep. Hawk in the way she handled me and my campaign. Furthermore, to make light of this past year, one can look at the election results and see that Sarah Bailey's political affiliation most definitely did not influence the results of any Unicoi County race. In fact, one can look at the success of the Republican Party in Unicoi County over the course of the past thirty years that the Democrats have had control of the State House and you can see that the party affiliation of U.C.'s election administrator is not determinative of political outcomes in U.C.

    • As a former Unicoi County Republican Party Chairman, I see no need to replace Sarah Bailey. As a businessman now, I know that you should do all you can to keep qualified personnel.

    • Sarah Bailey should be retained as Administrator of Elections in Unicoi County. I work the elections and she has always been very efficient and professional in her duties. The fact that she is a Democrat should not be a consideration for her being employed if she is qualified and she is qualified. I truly believe that her removal from her position will hurt the Republican Party.
