This is a petition to overturn the Uxbridge School Committees decision on bussing and request they hereby void the current contract with the Vendetti bus company for the upcoming 2009-2010 school year. This petition urges the School Committee to think of the larger population and to take into consideration older children can take care of themselves while younger children still need their parents help and guidance.
By signing this petition, I am asking the school committee to no longer offer bus transportation to and from school for Uxbridge high school students. By eliminating the high school run (which few high school students use, per the school committee) it allows children in grades K through 4 to attend school at the same time and be bussed at the same time. Also, middle school parents who were being forced to drive their students in fear of the exposure to much older children on an overcrowded, unsupervised bus can feel safe using the bus transportation again thereby lessening the traffic flow and congestion at the Whitin Middle school.
By signing this petition I acknowledge if the current contract goes through there will be greater ramifications such as loss of after school programs, loss of transportation to CCD, loss of wages, greater traffic congestion around town, higher stress levels for students, bus drivers, parents and residents of Uxbridge, and most importantly our town and our children will be divided.

- I don't believe it is safe that the school will not have enough buses available for the entire Taft school student population in case of snow storm or other type of emergency. Many more parents are going to start driving their children to school if this contract stays the way it is which is going to cause a huge problem in the traffic around the schools and some parents will have to hang around Taft to drop their 2nd child off a the later time.

- I feel that the youngest kids should NOT be the ones who have to adapt to the biggest changes. Their needs are greater than those of older kids, and it is our responsibility to guide and protect them.

- Although this will affect me (my kids take the bus home) as the parent of high school students, I don't think it is the right solution for the town. I can just imagine what a nightmare it will be for those in the elementary and middle school educators that need to plan for this, never mind how chaotic it would be for the kids.

- Please think about the children and families this situation effects. It is important to keep our children safe. We preach about the importance of spending time as a family and then you make it more difficult to accomplish that.

- This will create a hardship for working parents who have younger children and will now be on different school schedules.
