Make vitamin D shots available in the United States!
Studies have linked the importance of vitamin D in maintaining bone density, fighting cancer, preventing cardiovascular disease, and even have connected vitamin D deficiency to degenerative diseases like multiple sclerosis. Medical experts agree that we are only just now scratching the surface of the benefits of this vitamin.
Various studies have shown that exposure to sunlight alone is often not enough to raise vitamin D to optimal levels, especially for those in the northern latitudes. In addition, the inherent risks of unprotected sun exposure combats the effectiveness using sun exposure in place of supplementation. However, many people are finding that supplementation, even at megadose quantities - is not enough to raise their vitamin D levels.
Much of the American public would benefit from having the vitamin D shot available, as in many cases an annual or semi-annual shot would be far more efficient and effective in maintaining levels than any other form of supplementation. Notably, an increasing number of bariatric patients (who malabsorb fat soluble vitamins), those with inhibited digestion (cystic fibrosis, Krohn's disease), and women struggling with osteoporosis would benefit greatly from the shot.
Please make the vitamin D shot available in the United States. For many of us, this is our best hope at achieving healthy levels.

- Even when supplementing with special Dry D3 pills at over 50,000 IU/day, I can't get my levels beyond the bare minimum "normal" ranges. I would jump at the opportunity to use a shot if it would be more effective than the numerous pills I take, which clearly aren't working!

- I had lost my ability to walk due to virtually no vitamin D in my body. It took two years for the cause of my downward spiral to be diagnosed. I am now back to normal with only some weakness etc. But, even with 150,000IU of D2/D3 per day, my level remains relatively low.

- I malabsorb nutrients, and am required to take 100,000 IU/day just to get my blood levels to mid range. Th high cost of capsules is not necessary given that the actual cost is pennies. The shots are readily available in other countries (over the counter). There's no reason the USA should be so lacking in this. I have a friend who obtains injection vitamin D from France in order to manage the cost.
