Excellency Graeme Clark,
OAS Canadian Representative
We would like to bring to your attention a request to allow interested and independent ONGs to attend the next OAS meeting to be held in Honduras. We have been informed that the non-democratic government of Venezuela led by Mr. Hugo Chavez is intending to stop Human Rights advocate ONGs from participating in this meeting. They have already stated that they would like to reserve the right to select the ONG that will participate.
Mr. Chavez has always shown open adversity towards respect, fairness and human rights. A specific example is the fact that he has never allowed OAS Interamerican Comission of Human Rights to visit the country and once expelled out of Venezuela Human Rights Watch President, Mr. Jose Miguel Vivanco. Mr. Chavez has constantly disqualified Human Rights watch organizations and in this particular situation their intention is to ban ONLY the ONGs that are independent of the Venezuelan government in an attempt to hide the Venezuelan reality.
We appreciate your attention to this important request.
Please accept, Excellency the assurances of our highest consideration.

- It is time the democratic governments of this continent begin to stand up to the constant and flagrant violations of basic human rights commanded by Hugo Chavez and his regime. What else needs to happen in Venezuela for the OAS to take due considerations and actions to request the government of Venezuela to respect the most basic human rights of freedom of speech, freedom of association, freedom to live in peace?

- The governments of Venezuela and Nicaragua state that they are democratic. Then they have to act as such. NO WAY they can choose which NGOs can attend the meetings! DEMOCRACY MUST BE IN PLACE AT ANY TIME!
