More Cops Walking the Beat

Are you the Author?
We respectfully request that members of the Metropolitan Police Department of the District of Columbia regularly walk the streets of the neighborhoods to which they are assigned. We understand there are tradeoffs inherent in the allocation of personnel in this manner. We believe the community-building and preventive benefits of having officers walking the beat are worth these compromises. We also recognize having officers walk the beat may require additional officers and additional funds. We believe this is worthy of such shifts in priorities. Please respect the wishes of your constituents.

    • I am alarmed about the increase in robberies of local businesses, assults on pedestrians, and shootings in my neighborhood. Also the constant noisy loitering outside my home at all hours of the night.

    • It would be great to not have to worry everytime my wife walks home or takes the metro home late from work. More cops on the beat would help tremendously, especially around both Shaw metro exits and on S St b/w 7th and 8th.

    • I would like more police on the street for the reason that many of the thugs hide out in the alleys and hide in the alleys. They also don't see and meet many of the residents.
