The Wallaw Cinema in Blyth was closed in 2004, the last screening being "Passion of the Christ". Ferguson's transport currently own the property and it is currently a grade II listed building. However, they are trying to get the listing removed and be given permission to pull it down to make way for new developments.
I personally think the Wallaw is a huge part of Blyth and should not be allowed to be pulled down.
This petition is to upgrade the rating of the building to a Class I listed building, and to deny any requests to pull down.

    • It's a crying shame that they (Fergusons) are deliberately running down this beautiful building, which is a great example of 1930s cinema architecture, on purpose with a one track mind to demolition for the value of the land to simply build cheap property on. They used to be a local business that cared for there local community. Not any more it seems.

    • This building needs to be reopened, it's a huge miss. I took my wife on our 1st date (1992), and she is still with me!! Clash of the Titans in the front row (1981)! Memories.

    • I worked there as projectionist for many years right up to closure. I had some great times and i`ve loads of memories. It`s very upsetting to see it in the condition it is now. I would love to see it used as a cinema or multi purpose entertainment centre.

    • This building should be restored to it's original beauty. In absence of any immediate funding to secure this it should be elevated to Grade 1 until there is funding available and a sufficient number of appreciative paying customers to make the enterprise profitable. Observe the Tyneside.
