Whereas:
Heavy freight trains regularly pass through downtown Langley City and the rural Township, blocking the streets and causing intolerable traffic chaos with idling vehicles polluting the air.
The railway companies intend to increase the length of these trains to 3.7 kilometers and to further increase the frequency of the trains.
The railway companies plan to install double tracking.
The increased number of trains will block the main streets and core of Langley, each train blocking a number of rail crossings for periods of 10 to 15 minutes.
This will put into further jeopardy the lives of citizens requiring fire and ambulance vehicles.
This will negatively affect local merchants, restaurants, tourism, air quality, home values and quality of life in Langley.
This will make Langley an unsafe and undesirable place in which to visit, live, commute and work.
Therefore:
Be it resolved that all parties involved make the extraordinary effort required to reroute all heavy freight trains out of downtown Langley and back into the historic rail corridor located south of the Fraser River.
This move will take a combined effort of heroic proportions by all parties involved. But the time is ripe for change and spending measures to boost Canada's economic outlook through the construction and relocation of rail traffic and the smooth flow of Canadian goods to BC ports for export abroad.
BE A HERO. GET THE TRAINS OUT OF DOWNTOWN LANGLEY

- The citizens were not consulted about the funding for overpasses which wouold result in more trains coming through Langley, is that DEMOCRACY?

- the trains need to be moved to the river, not through Langley City! The current track should be used for interurban transport.

- I appreciate that trains are an integral part of our economy. The overpass is fine, but with the inccreasing population of Langley and the lack of a decent transit system to Langley we are forced to drive when we want to go east. I understand that there is a possibility of rerouting trains to a less densely populated area. Has this eaver been considered as an option?

- There are so many reasons why longer and more frequent trains should not be permitted to cut through Langley. Why does the city have to put up overpasses? Why doesn't the rail company do so or even re-route the track around the city? This is ridiculous!

- Please note- If the NEW WESTMINSTER RAIL BRIDGE was replaced ,all East bound DELTAPORT trains could be diverted to the North side of the FRASER RIVER and would not have to come anywhere near Langley

- I've lived here 25 years and must have wasted a few of those waiting for trains. Time to be progressive and let Langley grow without the added frustration of two-mile trains.

- A city centre should be a people place. A more inappropriate routing for two mile long unit trains is difficult to imagine.
