On February 9, 2008 the citizens of the great State of Washington overwhelmingly selected Senator Barack Obama as their preferred presidential nominee for the Democratic Party. Furthermore, the turnout at the caucuses was record-setting with many first time participants and seasoned caucus veterans alike.
Senator Obama's victory was not confined to certain regions or pockets of concentrated support within Washington. Of the 39 counties in the state, 38 were won by Senator Obama.
As representatives of the entire state of Washington, we find it absolutely critical that you do, in fact, represent the wishes of your constituents. As Superdelegates at the National Convention in Denver, you as individuals can have a significant impact on the outcome of this nomination.
By endorsing Senator Hillary Clinton, you made a respectable decision (Sen. Cantwell on December 31, 2007 and Sen. Murray on January 30, 2008). However, in light of Washington's caucus results and your role as representatives of the citizens of this state who made Senator Obama their choice for the nominee, we find it imperative that you stand up for the wishes of your constituents.
As un-pledged delegates, you are able to support any candidate at the Democratic National Convention. We sincerely hope that your choices ultimately reflect the wishes of the people you represent, and not, as Senator Murray has said, "personal loyalty and admiration" for a specific candidate (http://blog.seattletimes.nwsource.com/davidpostman/2008/01/sen_murray_endorses_clinton.html).
We insist that, as entrusted agents of the people of Washington State, your Superdelegate vote is aligned with that of your constituents.
