Deer Microsoft and all concerned
The Windows operating system is one of the most widely used in the world, and many users with disabilities enjoy the ability to use it with products from other companies. However, there are some improvements to be made in order for total usability of Windows by these users.
First, we, the undersigned, believe that it is necessary for the Windows operating system to make available the accessibility aids existing within the product itself alongside installation or repair utilities. This list includes utilities such as narrator, magnifier, and on-screen keyboard.
Next, we believe that necessary documentation should be made in alternative formats. Primarily, the product key should be made available to those with print disabilities by way of Braille, text file, or other format which is possible to be read by persons with visual impairments.
Finally, we believe some functionality should be added to accessibility utilities within Windows. It may be required for a user to do something like browse a webpage, which cannot be done with some featured aids in their current state.
By incorporating these requested changes, everyone should be able to install, configure, and use Windows, completely without the aid of others. If at all possible, we would like to see the aforementioned changes incorporated in the upcoming Windows 7. To do so in this upcoming version of the software, as well as others, would make the product in general much more appealing to people with disabilities. We wish you luck in this endeavor.

- I feel it is time for Microsoft to get with the times and make, in particular, the installation and repair functions of Windows accessible to all persons who need it.

- Anything to make Windows more efficient, streamlined, and accessible gets my vote. In my case, I use the keyboard exclusively and depend upon screen readers to know what's occurring. I'm running Windows XP Home Edition, and I've found the Narrator screen reader uninformative, the default voice is muffled, and in general, I wouldn't use it just because it tells me practically nothing. I hear that Narrator is improved in later versions of Windows. I recommend you make sure to have people on your staff who know about accessibility, and hopefully you have blind technical experts who can help you make everything as accessible as possible. If there are programs that somehow get corrupted, it would be great if they were able to be fixed, preferably by someone who knows what they're doing. So I applaud your efforts to make Windows completely accessible and easy to use for everyone, regardless of whether they see or not. Thanks for reading the petition and we hope this will be implemented as soon as possible.

- If Apple can build a fully functional screen reader right into the OS, Microsoft has failed miserably in terms of accessibility for the blind. Perhaps when the Mac becomes more of a financial threat Microsoft will get a clue and begin to build more accessibility into PC's and other products.

- With technology moving along as it has, it really doesn't make sense that a disabled person still has to depend on others for help.

- many times we need to be able to take care of every day computer housekeeping things ourselves like anyone else. I would really like to see this happen.

- I think that Microsoft could make Narrator closer to being a fully-functioning screenreader without it being in competition with other software, especially if it was made to work well with Microsoft products.

- I am looking forward to the day when I will be able to install Windows without sighted assistance. Please do this in Windows 7. It is extremely frustrating to have to call on someone else to repair or install Windows when everyone else can do it themselves. As a blind person, I rely on my computer for more than just recreation, and need to get it back up and running as soon as possible, if problems occur.

- Although I've been a Windows user for many years and think it is overall an excellent product, I would appreciate more accessibility in the afore-mentioned areas. Safe Mode hasn't been mentioned, but I've had this predicament myself and both times I had great difficulty knowing what to do to get out of Safe Mode.
