Arlington County has been working more than two years on a redevelopment plan for Crystal City. The Task Force work has been completed and the Board has given approval to develop a vision plan.

During the next several months, the various commissions of Arlington County will hold hearings on the vision plan and the Planning Commission will ultimately present their recommendations to the Board.

The vision plan has a serious flaw. The proposed increase in parks and open spaces is wrong. In fact Crystal City will lose parks and open spaces with the current baseline used. The baseline for parks and open space is understated by several acres If the correct baseline was used, even more acres of parks and open space would be lost.. This planned reduction will occur as the overall Crystal City density will go up more than 60\% and the residential density will go up almost 100\%.

Say NO to Arlington County reducing park land while planning massive density increases and say YES to adding parks and open space for the enjoyment of Arlington County residents.

We, tax-paying residents of Arlington County, support MORE not less parks and open spaces in Crystal City. We want Crystal City to continue to be an attractive place to live and work for us as noted by our signatures in support of this petition. This petition will be shared with Arlington County Board members in advance of the vote affecting the future of Crystal City.

    • Parks are one of the things that make Crystal City livable. It was key to the original Charles E. Smith Plan. Don't let us down by allowing developers to take our precious park space.

    • Arlington County is now reneging on their own rule which forced developers to include park space in their designs years ago. They are now planning to take away that park space.

    • My survey shows that there are more than 476 Senior citizens now liveing in Crystal Gateway and hte Waterford House that use the park facing our the front of our bulidings. Maybe that is unimportant to you but to us it is a a rest place and meet your neighbor. Please don't remove this area for senior citizens.

    • Also of critical importance: (1) Preserving the traffic-free/ weather-free "Pedestrian Underground" and (2) reducing congestion and vastly enhancing transit for EVERY phase!
