Description of Situation:
When Easter falls in March, many hockey play-off games and tournament games are scheduled on Easter Sunday and Good Friday. Easter Sunday and Good Friday are very significant Holy Days for Christians.

What is needed?:
What is needed is for the Winnipeg Minor Hockey Association to add a new rule/regulation to ban the scheduling of all hockey games on Easter Sunday and Good Friday.

Why is this needed?:
This is needed because......It takes a village to raise a child.
The village we live in is Winnipeg. It includes the areas of Transcona, St. Vital, Seven Oaks, St. James-Assiniboine, St. Boniface, River East, Pembina Trails, North-West, Lord Selkirk and Assiniboine South. Parents and children from all of these areas are involved in hockey. As parents, we feel it is important to give our children a well rounded childhood. This includes being actively involved in sports and our children play hockey. We also believe it is important to foster and nurture our childrens spiritual faith and Christian beliefs. The fact is that many families attend church services on Easter Sunday, and these services take place from early in the morning until late in the afternoon.
Being a parent today is difficult and we seek support from other parents in our community. The people involved with the Winnipeg Minor Hockey Association are part of our community and many of them are also parents. We would like their support. This support will send a strong, positive message to our children.
Our message to our children should be to get a good education, maintain good health through diet and exercise and practice a strong spiritual life where they learn respect for themselves and respect for others. If we can accomplish this together, then we can feel that we have successfully done our jobs.

We, the undersigned, call on the Winnipeg Minor Hockey Association to add the following to their Rules and Regulations for the 2008 2009 hockey season:
No hockey league games, play-off games or tournament games shall be scheduled on Easter Sunday or Good Friday.

    • There are very few 'family' days to spend together without running from activitity to activity so we could all benefit having these few 'special' holidays to enjoy together. This would benefit all involved with WMHA.
