We believe that in this age of globalization, language study enhances the academic curriculum of students in every major. WT graduates that have utilized the Japanese program have continued their respective studies in art, government, history, and education at prominent universities all over the world. Their admittance to these universities and subsequent careers were all facilitated by the program that West Texas A&M made available to them.
The Japanese Language Program adds vital diversity to the education West Texas A&M University makes available to its students. This program enriches the quality of education available at WT and we [the undersigned] would like the administration to consider alternatives that make credited Japanese studies available to students for the 2009-2010 academic year and beyond.

- We may be a small group, but there is a high density of grants, scholarships and work exchange ambassadorships being awarded to WTAMU Japanese students, past and present. Surely this is a sign of the program's merits.

- University is all about broadening horizons and offering opportunities for a diverse learning experience...plus Japan and China are huge economic and cultural influences globally. It would be nice to keep that international element avaliable for students at WT.

- I wouldn't be where I am without this program. Also, if WT wishes to be competitive and aspire to high academic standards, then languages need to be offered.

- If the administration didn't pour so much into that ridiculous athletic complex, there would be ample funding to hire even one new professor.

- Although I am not longer in the program I feel that it would be benificial to keep the Japanese Language studies at WT in order to attract a wider range of students.

- There are numbers of students who are eager to study Japanese at college; however, it is currently difficult to find colleges that offer Japanese, especially in mid-western and southern area. I really hope West Texas A&M University will reconsider to keep Japanese course for students who have possibilities with international perspective.

- I didnt even know we had one until i entered WT. If we can keep the program active and get it out there that there even is a program, i think it can grow in years to come.

- This is a dangerous decision made by West Texas A&M officials. This program offered Texas students a unique opportunity and its continued success would bring about significant academic opportunities for the University as well as the potential for growth. An East Asian studies program is one that does not exist south of KU and West Texas A&M would be wise to pursue it. This program has given several of our students the opportunity to study and work abroad (Jacqui Hatfield, Kitt Jennings). I will be thoroughly ashamed of the University if this program is cancelled. At some point the students have to become more important to university officials than financial gain.
