This petition is to persuade the Gov. of the Commonwealth of Kentucky to rename the "Holiday Tree" being placed in the State Capital a CHRISTMAS Tree.

This is just COMMON SENSE! We live in a politically correct world where common sense has taken a back seat to an irrational fear of offending anyone. Other than Christmas and Arbor day, I am not aware of any other holidays that use a tree as the focal point. Calling what is so OBVIOUSLY a Christmas tree by another name makes everyone involved look downright silly!

Christmas is a holiday celebrated by an overwhelming majority of Kentuckians and Americans alike, regardless of religious designation. Christmas is a season, a spirit, and a time of unity, and the Christmas tree itself bears no religious significance.

This is where it starts! Referring to a Christmas tree as a "Holiday" tree, is the first step, next thing you know Santa Claus will be changed into a gender-neutral (We can call him Pat), racially ambiguous (Maybe he can be blue?), entity who is not allowed to deliver presents to children because it would be socially inappropriate to so without a permission slip and an adult present!

Santa can no longer be jolly (That would offend those with clinical depression) or fat (There is a war on childhood obesity) and can not magically fly around (that would offend those who do not believe in magic, and maybe promote Wicca?) Not to mention his army of enslaved little people and inhumanely treated, overworked reindeer who must trudge in the cold to take him on his appointed rounds! (That would upset Peta!)

After that, than no childhood holiday mascot is safe. Cupid could be a sex offender because he wears a diaper. Not to mention the fact that he carries a bow and arrow, that violates Zero Tolerance for weapons at schools. Somehow, the Easter Bunny would promote sexual promiscuity because rabbits are very fertile. And the tooth fairy might support gay marriage and an alternative lifestyle agenda!

Where does it end? It must STOP HERE! Mr. Governor, the "Holiday" Tree is a CHRISTMAS TREE! Use common sense, or doom us all to this fate!

Thank You.

    • I am currently serving in Iraq with the 301st CM Co., KYARNG from Morehead, KY. It pains me to see Kentucky soldiers fighting for another's freedom when our own is threatened by political correctness. Most of our unit won't even be home for Christmas, and to see the good name of a sacred holiday sullied in our Bluegrass is very disconcerting. Would we change the name of the Menorah because not everyone is Jewish, or would we disallow advertisements for Ramadan because not everyone is Muslim? I ask you, Sir, to reconsider your decision.

    • This is ridiculous! Don't you have other STATE issues to resolve than calling the CHRISTMAS TREE a Holiday Tree? I dunno...ya think we have bigger issues like Welfare Abusers, Crime, Taxes and the State Budget to worry about?! It...........is..............a...............Christmas Tree! Now, move on to handling bigger issues.

    • It's time to leave Christmas alone. If they don't believe in Christmas they can ignore it. But stop taking it away from those of us who do believe and love it.

    • I think that calling a Christmas tree by any other name is the equivilant to calling a draddle or a menorah by something else because they signify a certain belief. Although you are trying not to offend anyone by changing the name of the most common and loved Christmas symbol, did you think about all of those who celebrate Christmas being greatly offended that we now have to tip toe around our religions and views.

    • I think the Governor owes the people of this state an appology for caving into politics. When are these politicians gonna get it, We the people elected them to represent us and do things like balance the budget, lower the cost of health care, stablize our retirement system NOT TO TAKE AWAY OUR CHRISTIAN VALUES. It is a Christmas Tree, it always has been and always will be to the people of this Commonwealth.

    • By calling it a "Holiday Tree" you are offending Christians so there is no way you cannot offend someone. If a "Christmas Tree" offends someone then they just need to grow up because that is ridiculous!!!!!
