Hello Yahoo! management team,
As a blind user, who accesses the internet via screen reading programs, I found it difficult to create my Yahoo! account, and ended up asking a sighted person for help, simply because there is no real support against that security image that the individuals who would like an e-mail have to go through. The page says that, if you are visually impaired, you have to leave a phone number, and be contacted. But my petition is that this system changes, and an audio file representing the characters on the image be placed along with the image itself, giving more accessibility for everyone!

- It's not just creating an account that causes the CAPTCHA on Yahoo to rear it's ugly head. Sometimes if you accidentally forward something to or from someone who's not in your addressbook, or you unknowingly send someone an .exe without zipping it first, it appears. You can't send anymore email until you've taken care of it. My mother, who is sighted but wears glasses, needs 3 tries generally to solve the CAPTCHA for me.

- Not only would this petition benefit blind individuals who wish to join Yahoo-administered groups, but it would relieve Yahoo itself of the need to devote man hours and personnel to the task of contacting those potential listers and completing the registration on their behalf. I wholeheartedly support this petition.

- Those images are such a curse. As an elderly person, I could deal with an audio clip that allowed replay.

- I just returned from the National Convention of the American Council of the Blind. That Organization adopted a resolution on this subject. CAPTCHA simply is NOT accessible. It is therefore not an acceptable security form. Even companies who provide a wave file for their CAPTCHA often garble the sound so much that it can not be understood. I am signing this petition, but it must be understood that we are talking not only about audible access, but clear and useable audible access.

- Asking a blind person to get help with this kind of access problem by contacting a sighted person takes the rewsponsability for access away fromthose who should be providing it in the first place. We should not have to burden others with these problems.

- I have followed the instructions for obtaining assistance with my Yahoo account and for years, I have waited for the promised phone call. This is a disgrace and a mockery by a huge corporation which offers so much material related to blindness and possesses so many lists concerning blind persons. Please, either respond as promised or find a better solution.

- Yahoo!'s continued lack of audio alternatives to its CAPTCHA scheme is shocking, given the company's other accessibliity initiatives. Please, Yahoo!, tear down the "No Blind People Allowed" sign!
