WHEREAS: It has come to our attention that certain individuals have organized online petitions defending the actions of a certain "celebrity," Paris Hilton, and requesting that Governor Schwarzenegger intervene to prevent Ms. Hilton from serving the 45 day sentence recently imposed upon her by Judge Michael T. Sauer in Los Angeles County Superior Court.

WHEREAS: The conduct of Ms. Hilton throughout the events leading up to her sentence has offended our sense of justice and civic responsibility, we hereby sign the instant petition in support of the sentence imposed by Judge Sauer and accordingly urge Governor Schwarzenegger to support the sentence of Ms. Hilton and refrain from intervention of any kind.

SALIENT FACTS SUPPORTING OUR PETITION INCLUDE:

On or about September 7, 2006, Ms. Hilton was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence. Hours later, in an interview on Ryan Seacrest's radio show, Ms. Hilton says of the arrest that "It was nothing." [Source: MSNBC]

On or about January 22, 2007, Ms. Hilton plead no contest to charges of alcohol-related reckless driving, and was fined and placed on 36 months of probation. [Source: MSNBC]

On or about February 27, 2007, Ms. Hilton was pulled over for speeding at double the speed limit down Sunset Boulevard at night without headlights. She was arrested for driving on a suspended license. This was also a violation of the terms of her probation. [Sources: TMZ/TMZ]

IT IS HEREBY DECLARED:

That the undersigned do not condone the conduct of Ms. Hilton and respectfully request that the 45-day sentence be upheld and that Ms. Hilton's attitude that she is "above the law" not be rewarded. Being rich or a "celebrity" should not be an excuse to flout the rule of law that the rest of us must obey.
