Alcohol consumption and its results are a widespread problem on most college campuses with CSULB not being an exception. Nationwide more than 44\% of college students binge drinking (5 or more drinks) within the past 30 days. 27\% of frequent binge drinkers had gotten hurt or injured compared to 3\% of non-binge drinkers. 57\% of frequent binge drinkers have driven after driving alcohol and they are 27 times more likely than non-binge drinkers to participate in unwanted sexual intercourse. On CSULB Campus in 2003 there were 115 arrests made for liquor violations.
Although there are current resources available on the CSULB campus for alcohol education they are not currently being utilized to their potential and many students, faculty and staff are not aware of them. I, as a student, faculty and/or staff of CSULB, am recommending in support of PHACE Promoting Healthy Alcohol Choices and Education, to increase the education and awareness of proper alcohol consumption, the effects and consequences of alcohol consumption to the individual physically and mentally and the CSULB policies and resources available.
