Playing It Straight |
To: Fox Television'Playing It Straight' may be the title of a gay-themed reality show aired on Fox, but the network is obviously not playing it straight with the loyal viewers that followed the show over the first three of its six planned episodes. At first, Fox pulled the show from its Friday-night slot, citing 'low ratings' (hello, not many viewers in your target demographic stay home Friday nights), but 'promising' to bring back the remaining episodes in June. Now the network has decided to renege on that promise and says it has no plans to ever air the episodes.
IMHO, I believe that once a TV network begins airing a reality show that has a set number of episodes where the ending is not revealed until the last episode, and the show creates a following, however small, based on that premise, the network has an obligation to that show's viewers to follow through with that audience by showing the remaining episodes, however inconvenient it may be for them (if the first time slot does not work out, at least try moving it to another one). If a network gets any viewers hooked on a show like this, and then pulls the plug on them, those viewers may decide not to watch any show, however good it may be, on that network because of this.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.Sincerely,
