We, the following citizens of the United States of America, petition our government to remove "under God" from the Pledge of Allegiance. The original phrasing of this pledge, did not have those two words. They were added in 1953, during the rise of the Soviet Union, and during the McCarthy days of persecution. We believe that these two words are against the first amendment to the Bill of Rights, the separation of church and state. These words also endorse Christianity as being the religion of the United States of America, when our forefathers wrote it in the spirit for freedom of religion.
