To the Legislators of the United States;
Every person should have the right to enter into a union, under the law, with any other person or persons of his or her choosing without the interference of either the Church or the State. Such a union should be granted all of the same rights as any individual would ordinarily have. No individual should be given any "special" right, title or privilege that any other individual does not have simply because of his or her choice to enter into a union with another individual or not to enter into such a union. In a country that supports "EQUAL RIGHTS" no adult should be considered dependent on another unless the other provides for his or her support and if that is so, married or not, they should be given the tax privileges of supporting that dependent.
To this effect, all references to marriage should be removed from federal and state law leaving that contract in the hands of the religious establishments that choose whether to practice it or not, and whether to recognize it or not.
