Hands Off Our Promise

To:  West Virginia College and High School Students

As many of you may, or may not know, the 2009 West Virginia state legislature decided to place a $4,750 cap limit on the Promise Scholarship, without question the most effective state-level aid for future West Virginia college students. Our men and women at the capitol justify this act by calling this a solution to the rising cost of the scholarship. Yet I ask you to examine the future of this scholarship 5 years from now. We will continue to let them hack away at our education funding until there's nothing left? It has become increasingly evident that education is not a major concern to the legislature. Our educators are underpaid and under-appreciated, the state department rams "21st century technology" down our throats while we type on our Windows 95 operating systems in our classes, and now they are cutting the educational grants that help countless students every year. It is our hope that, in agreement with our views, that you will join us and help us inform our legislature of our displeasure. Our elected officials can rest assured, come election time, the future voters of this state, the classes of 09, 10, 11, and 12, will remember you at the polls much in the same way as you have remembered us at this critical juncture in our lives.
