We, the undersigned, have learnt that non-disabled people are able to purchase RADAR Keys that allow access to disabled facilities - such as disabled toilets. These keys are also being sold on eBay.

As it stands, RADAR (and most local councils) will sell these keys to anyone willing to pay for them. The only time you need to prove disability is if you are entitled to be VAT exempt. Some councils provide RADAR keys for free to disabled residents, but others do not request proof of disability.

We want RADAR Keys to only be available to disabled people - as is the case for National Concessionary Bus Passes and Blue Badges. We want RADAR and ALL councils to request proof of disability. We want it made clear to eBay that selling RADAR Keys on their site is not allowed.

RADAR and many councils state that these keys are provided to prevent vandalism and misuse. Allowing NON-disabled people to purchase/posess these keys is a form of MISUSE. Non-disabled people are allowed to which toilet to use; standard public toilets or disabled toilets. Disabled people don't have this choice. When a disabled person needs to use specialist facilities, they should not have to wait for a non-disabled, but lazy, person who happens to have bought their way into the facilities via eBay or the RADAR website.
