A growing number of people in Ontario are becoming informed of the health benefits of whole raw milk as opposed to pasteurized milk. We are well aware of the hazards involved when unpasteurized milk is not handled in a sanitary manor, but when properly handled raw milk poses less risk of contamination than pasteurized milk as the milks own friendly bacteria are alive and quite strong. This is recognized in some States in the US, such as California, where raw milk from regulated farms is available for purchase. There are strict regulations in place to insure that this natural milk is from healthy animals, collected and stored in a sanitary manor and frequently tested for quality and safety. We are very concerned that as consumers in Ontario, we do not have the legal right to purchase clean, unpasteurized milk. We would like to see the laws prohibiting the sale of raw milk in Ontario changed to allow the people of Ontario the right to decide for themselves whether they want to consume sterilized, enzyme deficient milk or fresh, clean whole unprocessed milk as nature provides. We appreciate the governments concern on the safety of this milk and feel that regulations that would allow for safe raw milk to be available legally in Ontario as it is in several US States are perfectly acceptable. Please hear our voice and give us back the right to choose to consume whole, unprocessed milk and dairy products in Ontario.
