Ban US Smokeless Tobacco from The New York State Fair

This petition is part of a larger statewide action regarding tobacco sponsorship, promotion, and advertising at the NY State Fair. Dear Mr. Cappuccilli:

We love the New York State Fair. It is a great place to bring our families. With so many activities and events, there is something for everyone. Many people coming to the fair also love rodeo. We were shocked to see that our State Fair has welcomed United States Smokeless Tobacco Company (USSTC) sponsorship of the Bulls and Barrels rodeo on August 29, 2005. As you know, tobacco company sponsorship of our community events and activities is a marketing strategy to recruit youth and adult tobacco users and to normalize the use of tobacco products.

Our State Fair is a family event. Parents do not bring their children to the Fair so they can be marketed to by companies with such a long history of fraud and deceit who sell products so defective they actually kill people who use them as the manufacturer has instructed.

We, the undersigned request that you immediately sever your relationship with USSTC and adopt a written policy that prohibits sponsorship, exhibits and any other involvement by all tobacco companies at the State Fair.
