Additional Circulating US Reagan Dime

We, the Undersigned, believe that a new 10-cent Dime should be created in the United States. It should be identical in appearance to the current Roosevelt Dime, but feature a bust of Ronald Reagan on the obverse. This new Dime should both be produced and circulated along with the existing Roosevelt Dime.

Both Franklin Delano Roosevelt and Ronald Reagan had differing economic views (Keynesian economics and supply-side "Reaganomics", respectively). Both of these economic views greatly influenced global policy, the world economy, and mankind in general.

According to American anti-monarchist tradition, living Presidents are prevented from appearing on currency. As Ronald Reagan died on June 5, 2004, we feel it is time for him to appear on American currency. To only honor one economic viewpoint is unfair.

Various proposals have been made to put Reagan on currency, including replacing the Roosevelt dime, which we do not support. Reagan is scheduled to appear on the Presidential $1 Coin in 2016. However, attempts at everyday circulating use of dollar coins in the US have been consistently unsuccessful.

A Reagan commemorative coin is also possible, but these coins are primarily used by collectors and investors and do not circulate.

We propose that Congress authorize the production of circulating Reagan-obverse dimes in addition to the existing Roosevelt-obverse dimes currently in production and circulation.
