Grant Reggie Ball an additional four years of eligibility

We, the undersigned, do hereby request that the NCAA grant Reginald Lewis Ball of the Georgia Institute of Technology an additional four years of eligibility in football. We realize this is an unprecedented move for the NCAA, but consider the following:

In 2003, Reggie’s freshman year, he went 8 of 16 for 80 yards with an interception and no touchdowns against Georgia in a 34-17 loss. Reggie’s highlights included a personal foul for hitting a Georgia trainer on the sidelines and being pulled from the game by Georgia Tech coach Chan Gailey.

Against Georgia in 2004, Reggie went 13 of 31 for 141 yards including 13 rushes for -4 yards and, once again, no touchdowns in a 19-13 loss. He capped off this impressive performance by intentionally throwing the ball out of bounds on 4th down in Georgia territory, effectively ending Georgia Tech’s comeback attempt.

In the 2005 version of “Clean, Old Fashioned Hate,” Reggie went 18 of 35 for 155 yards with two interceptions in a 14-7 loss. To his credit, he did throw his only touchdown in four years against the Dawgs. Down by 7 at the end of the game, Reggie managed to throw a game-ending interception to Tim Jennings.

Finally, in 2006, Reggie led the ACC Coastal Division Champion Yellow Jackets into Athens and served up a less-than-impressive 6 of 22 performance for 42 yards. This included two interceptions, one of them another game-ending pick to Paul Oliver. Reggie also had 11 rushes for -10 yards to compliment his spectacular passing display.

After pondering all of these facts, we, representing the fans, alumni, students and players of the University of Georgia ask the NCAA to seriously consider granting Reggie Ball another four years of eligibility and another four years of embarrassing losses to the University of Georgia.
