Reservation in higher education and superspecialization is against the basic essence of the concept of equality embedded in the Indian constitution and a mockery of meritocracy. It aims at dividing the Indian society in name of caste and class, even though all Indians are equal in all respects. On one hand it robs the talented and capable ones of opportunities they truly deserve; and on other hand, it attempts to unnecessarily humiliate our fellow mates from SC/ST/OBC by forcing them to carry the stigma of preferntial treatment meted out in form of quota and reservation.
We, the fraternity of IITs and IIMs, solemnly believe that all Indians are equal and do not believe in the concept of caste, creed or religion as roadblocks to meritocracy. We believe that every individual has the fundamental right to live with his/her head held high by means of status & position rightfully earned through sincere efforts.
We, the students and alumni of IITs and IIMs, are one with our fellow mates from the Medical fraternity and oppose any move by Government to bring any form of reservation in higher education and superspecialization courses.
We appeal to the government and fellow citizens to offer their whole-hearted support to eradicate such divisive policies which act as obstructions to India's surge towards a just, equal, progressive and meritorious society.
