The REAL Gas Tax Holiday

The continuing rise and fall of gasoline/diesel prices is eroding our economic base across the board. While those who are well off are not overly concerned, those of us "in the middle" and especially those who were already living paycheck to paycheck need a break NOW...not 5-10yrs down the line.

Since a good amount of the "cost" of a gallon of motor fuel is derived from taxes and fees, wouldn't that be the quickest way to secure some immediate relief...so workers and families do not fall from the already horseless "cart of progress" that our current economic woes have thrust us into?

So my proposal is a "true" 6 month gas tax holiday aimed at the level where most of it is taken...THE STATE and LOCAL LEVELS.

Let's get our local and State legislators to help us out until the Feds can get their ducks in order...by instituting a 6 month motor vehicle fuel taxes/fees holiday commencing on Labor Day 2008 and running thru April 15, 2009 (Tax Filing Day).

Knocking off an average of 45-75 cpg on motor fuels will do alot more in the short term to shake off our economic doldrums and the hands off economic collapse pulling at our legs...and help stave off thousands from the ruin of bankruptcy/forclosure/insolvency.
