Subject: Speedy trial and justice in the incident of Rumana Manzur.

Honourable Prime Minister

We believe you are aware that Rumana Manzur, an Assistant Professor of the International Relations Department in Dhaka University, suffered severe injuries in her eyes as her husband Hasan Sayeed Sumon pushed his fingers into her eyes at their Dhanmondi residence in the city on June 5, 2011. Doctors say she has lost her sight for ever.

We are shocked that such event can happen in a country where democracy has seen lights through movements and toils under the leadership of two great female leaders.

We are deeply concerned about the developments that have been happened after the incident. We are afraid that justice might not be done; truth might be lost by the winks of the powerful.

You have set examples many times through your stand for the powerless. So, we fervently appeal to you for your kind attention in the matter and delivery of justice through a speedy trial procedure. Please let the world know that in a country under your leadership, violence against women is not tolerated at any means.
