Save Physician Recruitment Funding

To:  Provincial Government

Whereas Barrie has 30, 000 residents without a family doctor and a hospital doctor staff that is facing chronic shortages in manpower.

Whereas “The Barrie and Area Physician Recruitment Task Force” has recruited over sixty seven doctors in less than three years.

Whereas Barrie continues to have a rapidly growing population.

Whereas health care funding cuts for physician recruitment would fundamentally damage Barrie's ability to recruit doctors to Barrie area.
Be it resolved that the City of Barrie demand Premier McGuinty not to remove Barrie from list of under serviced communities for doctors as suggested in the paper titled “Ontario’s New Physician Recruitment and retention programs: Bringing the Underserviced Area Program into the 21st Century.”
And that
Other municipalities affected by this proposed cut be informed of this resolution and be encouraged to do the same.
