CANADIANS CALL FOR FULL IMPLEMENTATION OF ROMANOW REPORT

To Prime Minister Jean Chrétien and the Premiers of Canada:

We, the undersigned residents of Canada, are eager to strengthen Medicare. We believe that FULL AND IMMEDIATE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE ROMANOW REPORT is an essential step to protect and enhance our most precious public service. Please heed the call of Canadians and work collaboratively to make sure we can count on a strong, comprehensive, and publicly funded, not-for-profit health-care system - for generations to come.

You can do that by: Increasing federal funding for targeted expansion of Medicare. Establishing accountability for health expenditures. Stopping the spread of privatization. Protecting our health-care from trade agreements. Pursuing all Romanow recommendations, including those on primary health-care, home care, pharmacare, funding remote and rural communities, reducing wait times for diagnostic services, and resolving health human resources shortages.

Prime Minister and Premiers, MEDICARE BELONGS TO THE PEOPLE OF CANADA, and we are looking to you for leadership and long-term vision like never before. We want our tax dollars spent on public health care for patients, not for private profits. PLEASE ACT NOW!

Au Premier Ministre Jean Chrétien et aux Premiers Ministres des provinces,

Nous, les soussignés résidents du Canada, attendons avec impatience le renforcement du système de santé. Nous croyons que LA MISE EN OEUVRE COMPLÈTE ET IMMÉDIATE DU RAPPORT ROMANOW est essentielle à la protection et à l'amélioration de notre service public le plus précieux. Veuillez s'il vous plaît considérer attentivement la demande des Canadiens et Canadiennes, en travaillant conjointement afin de s'assurer que nous puissions compter sur un système de santé public, complet, efficace et sans but lucratif pour les générations à venir.

Vous pouvez atteindre ces objectifs en augmentant le financement fédéral dans les domaines de la santé qui en ont le plus besoin, en établissant un mécanisme pour rendre des comptes sur les dépenses en santé, en mettant fin à la privatisation, en protégeant nos soins de santé des accords de libre-échange, et en réalisant toutes les recommandations du Rapport Romanow, incluant les soins de santé de base, les soins à domicile, la couverture de médicaments prescrits, le financement des communautés rurales et éloignées, la réduction du temps d'attente pour les diagnostics médicaux ainsi que la résolution des problèmes relatifs à la pénurie de personnel en santé.

Messieurs les Premiers Ministres, LE SYSTÈME DE SANTÉ APPARTIENT AUX GENS DE CE PAYS et nous nous attendons à ce que vous fassiez preuve de leadership et d'une vision à long terme comme jamais auparavant. Nous voulons que nos impôts et taxes servent à payer les soins de santé publics pour les patients, et non au profit du secteur privé. S'il vous plaît, AGISSEZ MAINTENANT!
