Danielle's Law Goes to Washington |
THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES MUST SIGN "DANIELLE'S LAW" TO PROTECT OUR MOST HELPLESS AND WEAKEST INDIVIDUALS LIKE DANIELLE. WE ARE THE VOICE OF THOSE WHO OFTEN CAN NOT SPEAK FOR THEMSELVES.
To: United States Congress & United States SenatorsNEW JERSEY'S DANIELLE'S LAW GOES TO WASHINGTON
On April 14, 2005, Congressman Rush Holt introduced DANIELLE'S LAW in Congress, H.R. 1649. Congressman Holt stated "there is a need for such a law as New Jersey's Danielle's Law on the federal level. There are a lot of variability in the patchwork of state laws. We are trying to eliminate that variability and create a standard so that all developmentally disabled people are treated equally. The proposal is in fact a modification of the Social Security Act. The facilities that house the nation's 4.5 million developmentally disabled citizens also receive aid through Social Security, we need to make the standards for health care a federal concern".
On October 26, 2003, hundreds gathered as Governor James E. McGreevey signed New Jersey's DANIELLE'S LAW in a very moving ceremony in her hometown of Carteret, New Jersey.
DANIELLE'S LAW requires staff who work with people with developmental disabilities and/or traumatic brain injury to dial telephone emergency services in life threatening emergencies, something that Danielle was not afforded.
Danielle was a beautiful 32-year old girl, who was non-verbal, non-ambulatory, and at a very early age diagnosed with Rett Syndrome.
Danielle was experiencing difficulty breathing for over 14-hours with a reported temperature of 105 degrees, and no one at the facility called 911 to save her life. Danielle died on November 5, 2002.
Please sign this petiton and contact your Senators, Congressman, and Congresswomen in Washington and let them know that you support H.R. 1649 known as "New Jersey's DANIELLE'S LAW. One day, DANIELLE'S LAW may save the life of someone who is very near and dear to you.
