To:  Administration of the School of Architecture and Planning of UNM

We, the undersigned faculty, staff, students, and community members of UNM; call upon` the President, Board of Regents, the Dean & Associate Dean of the School of Architecture and Planning (SAAP) to immediately take the following actions:

1.) Publicly promise that all workers at UNM shall be ensured a safe and healthy workplace and that no worker shall be retaliated against for expressing concerns or making protests about health and safety issues, or for engaging in concerted activity to demand a safe and healthy workplace.

2.) Fund the reopening of the SAAP’s woodshop with adequate funds to create a safe and healthy work environment for staff, work study students, and sufficient hours to meet the needs of faculty and students. The Shop must be equipped with a dust collection system, which meets or exceeds OSHA requirements.

3.) Reinstate woodshop supervisor Ferydoun “Fred” Mahinfarahmand as a full time employee, with back pay, coverage under the collective bargaining agreement between UNM and United Staff-UNM, and with no further retaliation or discriminatory treatment against Mr. Mahinfarahmand.
