We are seeking to have a more competently-edited version of the holiday classic "Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer" replace the version that has shown on CBS since 2005.
In 2005, after years of presenting the classic more or less faithfully, CBS remastered it in high definition, and while doing so, badly re-edited the show. The worst flaw is the scene featuring the Rudolph-Hermey duet "We're A Couple Of Misfits." The soundtrack was matched to an entirely different scene, the deleted "Fame and Fortune" sequence, resulting in animation that does not in any way match the soundtrack. In addition, the sound editing creates abrupt skips in the song.
The rest of the special also contains several flaws that did not exist before 2005. The soundtrack throughout contains the warping that was cleanly removed in the 1998-2004 edit. Characters are frequently--and suddenly--out-of-sync with the dialogue. There are random skips in the soundtrack, and time-compression results in higher-sounding voices due to an increase in playing speed.
The yearly network broadcast of "Rudolph" is a much-loved tradition for many families. We request that this special be presented in a more faithful fashion, and re-edited in the professional manner that was employed prior to 2005. In particular, we request that the song scene "We're A Couple of Misfits" be restored to its original state, rather than matching its soundtrack to the visuals of a completely different scene.
