This petition is to sent a statement to the political establishment of the Republic of Ireland that we wish that the constitution of our country be changed to allow a citizen to run for the presidency by gaining the nomination of 10,000 eligible citizens.

We who have signed below feel that the current method of selecting candidates to run in Irish Presidential elections are too restrictive and prevents people who wish to run from doing so if they are not a member of a political party with enough representatives in the Oireachtas or Local Authorities.

We feel that the current system is bad for our democracy as it removes the choice of President of our country from the hands of it's people.

We ask that all political parties and independent members of Local Government and the Oireachtas lend their support to ensure that the 2011 Presidential election places before the people of Ireland the widest and most representative field of candidates from which to choose it's next President.
