Rainbow Six 3: Raven Shield is definitely a favorite for the Mac gaming community. Being GameRanger supported, it offers a great multiplayer environment for us to play on with tons of Mac users alike. Also, we can easily play on local area networks since creating networks in Mac OS X is only a matter of plugging in the computers and pressing a few buttons. The only downside of Raven Shield for Mac is that it is not cross-platform. This totally limits are gameplay because ~90\% of the computing market is taken by Windows. Therefore, we cannot just go to a friend's house and play Raven Shield (unless they are using a Mac). We also cannot game with as many people in large scale scenarios such as the Internet or LAN parties. Obviously, many of us Mac users will not switch to Windows just to play games. This would also benefit Windows users by expanding their playing field and giving them new competition.
Research has been done on this problem. A Windows user and I setup a Windows server running the same version as the Mac version just to see if that is why it is said to not be cross-platform. This did not work. The weird part is that the Mac version detected the Windows version, but when I tried to join it, I was given the message of "Incompatible Version". Yes, maybe there is light...
Aspyr Media, Inc., please fix this "Incompatible Version" problem. All it would take would be for a simple patch to be released. It does not seem like there is that much to do since the Mac version already sees the Windows version, we just need a "compatible version". If this could be done with Raven Shield, and possibly your other games such as Command & Conquer Generals, etc., many more people would support you and you would also be supporting Apple by having more games on their platform.
Thank you for considering our request, and the Mac gaming community wishes for this problem to be fixed.
