Save the Borough Market Area |
To: The First Secretary of State and the Secretary of State for TransportWe oppose Network Rail's current proposals to extend the THAMESLINK line over Borough High Street and the Borough Market area. WE believe that this will disastrously affect a CONSERVATION AREA of national importance, lead to the destruction of many fine Grade 11 listed buildings, including - the Wheatsheaf Pub (loss of the top floor) all of Green Dragon Court, 16-26 Borough High Street (Smirke Terrace) and the r/o the Park Street Georgian terrace. The scheme will also destroy a popular and unspoilt film location - one of the few left in London. Construction of a new viaduct will destroy the WHOLE PRESENT CHARACTER of this neighbourhood. The scheme will be a disaster for residents and visitors, bad for businesses and the film industry. WE urge Network Rail to abandon this scheme and seek alternatives.
Sincerely,
