The CIMS' Mother-Friendly Childbirth Initiative

Giving birth doesn't always have to be a medical or surgical event. Routine obstetrical interventions do lead to the excessive use of epidurals, episiotomies and cesarean sections. Women need support for gentle birthing.

We, the undersigned, request that our hospitals, birth centers and homebirth services, define and promote mother-friendly maternity services in accordance with the following principles: http://www.motherfriendly.org/MFCI/

And that to be considered "mother-friendly" these organizations must carry out the CIMS' philosphical principles by fulfilling the Ten Steps of Mother-Friendly Care: http://www.motherfriendly.org/MFCI/steps/

We will use this petition to affect change in our area, please use it to affect change in yours. CIMS is the Coalition for Improving Maternity Services, based in Florida.
