Build A Road Linking Sambro Loop Region To Prospect/St. Margaret's Bay Region |
To: Halifax Regional MunicipalityThe Sambro Loop region is an area situated on the Southeasten Chebucto Peninsula south of Halifax's Spryfield Area.
The region consists of picturesque and beautiful fishing villages, famous historic sites, popular beaches, and satellite communities including Ferguson's Cove, Herring Cove, Portuguese Cove, Duncan's Cove, Ketch Harbour, Bald Rock, Sambro, East Pennant, West Pennant, Williamswood, Harrietsfield, Spryfield (Halifax), Purcell's Cove (Halifax), and points in between.
Even with beautiful fishing villages and tourist sites in the Sambro Loop region, something is missing, a major road linking the area to Prospect/Terence Bay or St. Margaret's Bay area, creating a divided rural Chebucto Peninsula, not a unified one.
While the City of Halifax, Nova Scotia Government, and Halifax Regional Municipality, have talked about building a road linking Sambro Loop to Prospect or Brookside for over 20 years, reducing the need of going through Halifax to travel from one part of rural Chebucto Peninsula to another, they have done little or nothing in terms of building a road link. Residents of the loop, including myself, have had enough with waiting and inaction.
As a result of government inaction, the Sambro Loop Area is starting to pay a price for not having a road linking this region to Prospect and St. Margaret's Bay area, severely hurting tourism, housing development, and economic growth, making it potentially less competitive with HRM and even remainder of the Chebucto Peninsula.
Here are some reasons why its about time Halifax Regional Municipality should build a road linking West Pennant to Terence Bay or Brookside to Harrietsfield:
1. It creates a united rural Chebucto Peninsula.
2. Reduced travel costs for fisheries as a need to go through Halifax are reduced. For example, if you are a Lobster Fisherman in West Pennant, and you need to ship lobsters to a processing plant in Terence Bay or Prospect, the new road would reduce a need to travel 50 KMs when the actual distance between both communities is 7 KMs.
3. Improves tourism in both Sambro Loop, Prospect Areas, and Spryfield areas.
4. Makes the Sambro Loop and Spryfield areas more competitive with other parts of HRM, and the rural Chebucto Peninsula.
Halifax Regional Municipality and Nova Scotia Government claim its not possible to build a road linking West Pennant to Terence Bay or even Harrietsfield to Brookside, but that's not true.
If its possible to build mega subdivisions on flood plains, rocky areas, and other geographically impossible areas, its definitely possible to build a road linking West Pennant to Terence Bay or Harrietsfield to Brookside.
Building such a road will generate economic and tourism benefits for Sambro Loop, Spryfield, and Prospect/St. Margaret's Bay area, and also make the Sambro Loop more competitive, and encouraging economic growth.Sincerely,
