The following move to petition the court to stop overnight visitation of Kenneth L Coatney III born Jan.1, 1991, of Thayer, KS, and his family including Mr. Kenneth Coatney II of Parsons KS, and Shari Coatney with whom Mr. Coatney III resides with, with the child shared with Jeani M Schriver, born June 10, 1990 of Butler, MO. The child, Keegan R Coatney, born May 15, 2007 resides and has always resided with her mother, the father has never lived with the child or the childs mother. Keegan Coatney exhibits extreme emotional trauma due to being present when her mother was assaulted by Mr. Coatney on Sept. 14, 2008, and abuse caused by Mr. Coatney in Oct 2008.

The following signatures agree that it is in the best interest and safety of the child to not be forced to be sent to the home of her father in Thayer KS due to prior abuse and assault on both Keegan Coatney and Ms. Schriver. Mr. Coatney has physically, mentally and sexually assaulted Ms. Schriver, and has physically and mentally assaulted Ms. Schriver in the presence of the child. He has caused abuse to Keegan Coatney in the following but not limited to acts of allowing her to fall from the front porch of the residence at 504 W Ohio, Butler MO, and has forced grass and leaves into her mouth repeatedly, pushing away Ms. Schriver when she tried to stop him. His claim was that Keegan Coatney was not getting enough “greens” in her diet. Keegan became sick with high temperatures two days after, with a rash resembling poison ivy in her mouth, around her face, down her throat and on her chest, hands and wrists appearing three days later. She was treated at the Bates County Memorial Hospital prior to the rash beginning for high fever and a possible ear infection, due to slight redness in her ear. They refused to document the incident describing what her father has done.

Mr. Coatney also assaulted Ms. Schriver in front of the child on Sept. 14, causing her to go to the emergency room to seek treatment for a concussion, leading to further medical problems which she is currently seeking treatment for.

Keegan has been traumatized by the incidents, causing her to have nightmares on a nightly basis, repeatedly throughout the night, extreme fear of people, including people she knew and had weekly contact with, including family and friends. She also exhibits extreme behavior when being separated from her mother, including but not limited to throwing herself on the floor, banging her head and face onto the floor, doors, doorways, furniture, grocery carts, etc., causing her to injure herself with bruises, bloody noses and bloody lips. She also cries profusely to the point of being unable to catch her breath. Months of work has enabled her to be able to function in the care of her aunt, Eliza Schriver, maternal grandmother, Laura Sprague, and friend Allan Champlin. The nightmares continue with occurrence of one to several nights a week, one to three times a night. She still exhibits extreme behavior problems when not with her mother in the presence of strangers or family/friends that she does not see often. Keegan also exhibits extreme fear of someone knocking on the door, where she will run and hide and scream in fear.

We believe that it would further cause more trauma to the child to be forced to spend 48 hours without physical contact of her mother, and possible injury to her, due to extreme behavior problems and possible further abuse from her father, Mr. Coatney and his fiancé, 16 yr. old Jessica Moses, who has threatened physical harm to Ms. Schriver verbally through friends of Ms. Schriver. There are issues of highly possible danger to the child in the home of Mr. Coatney shared with his mother, Shari Coatney, including a near by pond, and other persons in the household that are mentally and physically disabled that are allowed to walk in and out the door without supervision, allowing the child to easily become in danger of wandering off or being struck by a vehicle as the house is in close proximity with the road.

We feel that limited supervised visits should be made in adjustment to Mr. Coatney’s proposed parenting plan, stopping overnight visits and out of state visits and without the presence of Ms. Schriver. Visitation should be made for two hour sessions in the presence of his parents Kenneth Coatney II and Shari Coatney, Ms. Schriver, Ms. Sprague, and in the presence of a police officer or social worker. The meetings should be held at the family room in Department of Social Services or police department, providing a safe environment for both child and her mother. It is also asked that the child be allowed to be removed from the supervised visitation by her mother or Ms. Sprague if she is exhibiting distress and upset, or if there are threatening statements or actions by Mr. Coatney or his family.

All other visitation should be stopped completely. Keegan Coatney is to remain in Sole and Full Custody of her mother, with Gaurdianship granted to Ms. Sprague for additional protection of the child as she provides daycare to Keegan Coatney.

Keegan Coatney is currently being seen by Dr. Miller and is preparing to undergo visits at Children’s Mercy for treatment of the trauma, to hopefully enable her to return to a more normal life routine.

We feel it is in the best interest to stop the abuse at it’s prior first sign, and not allow more abuse and injury to occur to the child.

Sincerely,

The Undersigned
