I would first like to thank you for visiting my petition and considering my position on pit bulls. I am a responsible pit bull owner in the Charlotte, NC area. Charlotte is currently considering numerous legislative restrictions and potential bans on pit bulls and other "dangerous" dog breeds. Now, I agree that these dogs, like all dogs, require responsible owners. Dogs are like children, they should be loved, cared for, and taught how to be respectable members of society. I am currently training my own pit bull mix to be a therapy dog, but this new legislation could hinder his abilities to help many sick children in my area.
Charlotte is currently considering muzzle laws, restrictions on ownership, and even potential bans. These new laws are impractical and ineffective. The city does not have the money or manpower to even enforce them. They also punish many responsible dog owners like myself. Why should all pit bull owners be forced to give up our pets and their freedoms because some people are reckless and cruel? And these laws don't stop at pit bulls, Charlotte has also already mentioned dobermans and rottweilers. To punish an entire breed for the sins of a few bad owners is morally wrong and the equivalent to dog racism.
The purpose to my petition is simple, I want to save my dog from these prejudice laws. I want to save my dog from a potential ban or from a forced muzzle. If you would like to save all of our dogs from these types of laws, please sign the below petition. Tell your local governments that you do not agree with ineffective and narrow-minded legislation. Stand up for the rights of dogs everywhere. Allow them to live and enjoy life. Force governments everywhere to rethink these issues and come up with good, workable solutions. Our dogs can't speak for themselves, so will you do it for them?
