There is a big crisis of confidence in constitutional authorities in India. Whenever a constitutional authority speaks, the confidence people have in them goes down. Chief Justice of India K G Balakrishnan has sent a letter to Prime Minister which said that questions asked by chronic litigants about the judiciary could erode its independence. He has requested the Prime Minister to protect the judiciary from increasingly intrusive queries under RTI Act. This letter as per newspaper reports appears to have triggered an exercise to look for options to effect changes in the RTI Act, and the government has started looking into possible changes in the RTI Act,.

Why administration of justice should not be transparent? Rather it should be the most transparent activity in the country. Today people have no faith in the judiciary. Such statements by the head of the judicial system further undermines this faith.

It is a sad state of affairs that the people who should be our role models are busy in installing themselves on high pedestals untouched from the laws of the land and to be seen as higher human beings. Why anybody should be out of the scope of RTI Act? Today CJI is arguing in favour of judiciary to be kept out of RTI and PM is agreeing with his arguments. Tomorrow PM's babus will argue and PM will agree. Then there will be others and one day RTI Act will remain a piece of paper on which some words are written.

I therefore request you to follow the law of the land like a common citizen like me does. All are equal in law it is said. Let this be demonstrated by all especially the constitutional authorities.

PLEASE DO NOT AMEND RTI ACT.
