To:  Pennsylvania Legislature

Pennsylvania Police Officers and their families need your help.

Show the Pennsylvania Legislature that you support police officers in Pennsylvania and their families!

In November of 2002, police officers in the state of Pennsylvania, attempted to have a Senate Bill passed which would have eliminated residency requirements for all police officers in the state of Pennsylvania. Unfortunately, many state law makers caved to political pressures and myths about residency requirements and the bill was tabled, denying police officers and their families the ability and right to choose where they wanted to reside, where they wanted to send their children to school, the ability to escape retaliation from people that they had arrested and the ability for two police officers, employed in separate municipalities, to marry and live together.

Now in 2003, police officers in the state of Pennsylvania are trying to have Senate Bill 290, "The Law Enforcement Officer Residency Act," passed and signed into law, thus giving their families and themselves the chance to escape retaliation from criminals that they had arrested. The passing of this bill is extremely important to the men and women that serve us daily, and to their families. Everyday, their family members are subject to retaliation from neighbors or people that the officers had arrested and the officers themselves have suffered dearly, due to residency requirements imposed by municipalities that employ them.

We ask that you take time and sign our petition and support and help the police officers in Pennsylvania. This is one of the most important Legislative issues to police officers in Pennsylvania in 2003, and they feel it is a safety issue, as well as a freedom that Pennsylvania Legislators are denying our police officers, our heroes that serve us daily.

And we want you to remember, in June 2001, the Pennsylvania Legislature passed a law allowing teachers in Pennsylvania to reside wherever they wanted. Police officers in Pennsylvania surely deserve this same treatment and they surely have more reasons to allow them to reside wherever they want.

They have made a website for their cause and they hope that you will support them and let the Pennsylvania Legislature, as well as the Governor know that you want Senate Bill 290, "The Law Enforcement Officer Residency Act," passed and signed into law. It is time that we stand beside our police officers and show them that we do support the men and women in Law Enforcement. It is time to show the Pennsylvania Legislature that we care about our police officers and their families. It is time to stop denying our police officers the freedoms that they fight to ensure that you have.

Once again, please take the time and sign the petition for eliminating residency requirements for police officers in Pennsylvania. Your information will not be viewed by the public.

Sincerely,

The Undersigned
