PETITION TO THE CITY OF FLAGSTAFF

WATER IS LIFE!!

URGENT! PROTECT PUBLIC HEALTH & FLAGSTAFF WATER!

We the undersigned urge our city leaders on the Flagstaff Water Commission and the Flagstaff City Council to respect our concerns, prevent further development on the Peaks, and protect our drinking water! We should use drinking water for drinking and not for irresponsible plans like snowmaking at AZ Snowbowl. Consider the following:

The unique ecological and cultural values of the Peaks are threatened by, not only snowmaking, but AZ Snowbowls larger development plans: More ski runs, more lifts, more parking areas and other ground disturbances further degrade these values and should not be allowed.

Studies by the Bureau of Reclamation indicate that by 2050 water demands will exceed sustainable supplies for the Flagstaff region. Arizonas already limited water supplies will be affected as drought and climate change threatens the entire Southwest region.

To use A+ reclaimed water presents an environmental risk to biodiversity and a considerable risk to health of humans. Studies by NAUs Dr. Propper and others show trace contaminants in the reclaimed water that are having effects on organisms including an increase in hermaphrodites and imbalanced ratios of male to females in animal studies.

We the undersigned value resource efficiency, sustainability, public health, and environmental justice. We must take care of the alpine ecosystems that supply us water, share it wisely with all that use it, and learn to live within our water means.

Therefore, we urge our Flagstaff Water Commission and Flagstaff City Council to SAVE THE PEAKS, PROTECT OUR DRINKING WATER AND DO THE RIGHT THING:
DO NOT APPROVE ANY WATER CONTRACTS FOR SNOWMAKING ON THE PEAK!

Instead, City leaders should consult with the Flagstaff community and our surrounding tribal neighbors on a better path forward that will not threaten our critical drinking water and prevent the further developments of the Arizona Snowbowl.
