We Want A Fifth Season of Farscape |
To: Vivendi Universal; USA Networks, Sci-Fi ChannelOn behalf of all of the message boards, websites, fan clubs, and avid viewers of Farscape: We, the fans of the Sci-Fi Channel Original Series “Farscape”, would like to make it
very clear that we want a fifth season of Farscape.
The Sci-Fi Channel seems to pride itself in airing original and unique series that do not fit into the arbitrary “black and white” category of “contemporary sci-fi” which airs on mainstream local networks. The Sci-Fi Channel had humble beginnings, mostly airing reruns of decades-old movies and shows which no other network would ever consider. Farscape is the premier series that steps out of the box and pushes the limits and boundaries of what truly is “science fiction”. It stretches your imagination, opens your mind to a new level of thinking and to new possibilities - a world where nearly anything could happen and yet was convincing and believable. All the characters, the acting, the story, the visual effects, virtually everything was completely believable and realistic. The raw emotion of the show that is weaved into each and every episode is what made Farscape fantastic. It has touched many lives in a way that cannot be explained. If Farscape were to end so abruptly with no closure, it would leave a deep void of emptiness within the hearts of its fans. We are very confident in stating that Farscape was the platform from which the Sci-Fi Channel rose from obscurity and IS now and continues to be the Sci-Fi Channel’s claim to fame.
It now appears that rather than continuing high-caliber programming such as Farscape, the Sci-Fi Channel is seeking generic programming and latching on to low-budget, low-plot shows that run in high quantity. By taking this action, the Sci-Fi Channel is showing a great disrespect to Farscape’s loyal fans, many of whom contributed to the Sci-Fi Channel’s success over the past 5 years. Many of these fans will likely discontinue their support for the Sci-Fi Channel because of its inability to reciprocate these contributions, leaving viewers with a sense of insecurity. In addition, it has picked up contemporary programming presumably in hopes of attracting more viewers than an “unconventional” or unique science fiction show could, once more betraying their core audience.
Farscape has continuously shown itself to not just be a solid show with strong ratings but also a benchmark for science fiction within the ranks of TV critics. The acting is top notch. The writing is nothing short of breathtaking. The character chemistry is fantastic and the characters themselves are portrayed down to even the subtlest of details; from makeup to movement. Farscape has thousands of websites and millions of fans, and a continually-growing audience with each episode, as new viewers discover the captivating magic that only it can offer. Therefore:
We the undersigned, respectfully ask the Sci-Fi Channel to reconsider its position on the production of Farscape Season 5 and beyond.
We look forward to seeing the next and hopefully many more installments of Farscape with its entire cast of talented actors and the crew that makes it all possible. Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely, Jeff WilliamsSincerely,
