Keep the Chargers off L.A.'s KCBS Channel 2

To:  The NFL and the FCC

On Dec. 1, 2006, the Federal Communications Commission license granted to KCBS-Channel 2 in Los Angeles will expire. Under the terms of the agreement, the FCC has granted the license to the local channel to "serve the public interest as a public trustee." However, Los Angeles residents continue to have games played by the NFL's San Diego Chargers forced into our KCBS programming schedule because the league has decided that Los Angeles is a "market of interest" for the franchise and thus, is subjected to all blackout rules that the league enforces with its territorial boundaries.
This petition is an attempt to let the FCC know that, despite what the NFL says, Los Angeles has not, is not and never will be part of San Diego and KCBS should not, as an organization serving the citizens' "public interest," be forced to carry these games when contests of greater interest to the local professional football fans are instead being blacked out so that the Chargers can control L.A. as a home market.
According to KCBS management, the FCC will take comments and petitions on this "public interest" matter until Nov. 1, 2006. We urge the signees, whether they are pro football fans or not, to take this "public interest" responsibility seriously and use it to let both the FCC and NFL we will not be subjected to San Diego Charger propaganda.

Sincerely,

The Undersigned
