Offer medical coverage to new senior immigrants
I am writing to bring to your notice a real problem which thousands of US citizens are currently facing. I trust that this problem is solvable by introduction of a Bill in the congress.
Problem:
No medical coverage including Medicare benefits are available to new senior immigrants for the first 5 years in the country.
Federal government promotes unification and offers expedited residency to the US citizen's parents. These parents who come into the country are happy to be united with their children, but are left without any medical insurance.
Details:
There is no viable private insurance option for new senior immigrants, and with Welfare Reform law of 1996, Medicaid is also not an option any more.
Many legal senior immigrants do not have any health insurance, putting proper medical care often out of reach. The petitioners believe that comprehensive reforms in Public health insurance are needed and request the Congress to offer solutions.
Solution:
One possible viable option is to allow Medicare coverage on actuarial premium. Please sponsor a bill in this regard to allow new senior immigrants to avail premium-based Medicare benefits.
We welcome other potential solutions including comprehensive reforms coming out of US congress as well.
