To whom it may concern:
We, the fans of the Superfriends, are not pleased with the treatment which you have given us recently. We have decided to show how much we care about the Superfriends by creating a petition dedicated to bringing the Superfriends out of obscurity.
This petition has two goals:
1. To get Cartoon Network to air every episode of the Superfriends, uncut and in their original format.
2. To get Warner Home Video to release every episode of the Superfriends on video and DVD, uncut and in their original format.
Ever since the Superfriends left the ABC network, its fans have been given unfair treatment.
First of all, no network ever reran the show after it left ABC. WB held the rights to the Superfriends, but didn't sell it into syndication. Also, Turner Broadcasting held exclusive cable television rights to the Superfriends, but never aired them.
Second, when USA started airing the Superfriends, they aired them in the "Superman/Batman Adventures" package with Filmation cartoons that should be aired in separate programs from the Superfriends, the Superfriends episodes were badly butchered, and the health and safety tips, the "De-Coder," "Magic," and "Craft" segments which aired on "The All New Superfriends Hour," the episode teasers, and the original openings and closings were removed. Even worse, USA actually skipped some episodes!
Third, when Cartoon Network aired the rest of the episodes starting in 1996, they not only removed the health and safety tips and episode teasers, but they aired "Challenge of the Superfriends" in a half-hour format, skipping the episodes that were shown in the program's first half-hour when it was on ABC! Also, they only aired 2 episodes of "Superfriends: The Legendary Super Powers Show," and only 4-6 episodes of "Super Powers Team: Galactic Guardians," and no episodes of "The All New Superfriends Hour" or the program which showed 3 7-minute shorts in a half-hour format, simply entitled "Superfriends." Then, they picked up "The Superman/Batman Adventures," and aired it under the title of "Superfriends." To this day, they still refer to it as "Superfriends."
Fourth, Cartoon Network completely removed the Superfriends from their schedule and replaced it with inferior shows like "Captain Planet" and "Scooby-Doo." In April 2000, they exiled it to Boomerang, a channel which no cable systems have, and which you have to pay extra for if you have a DBS satellite television system. Even on Boomerang, the show only plays sporadically, and they only show the same episodes Cartoon Network showed since 1996, as well as "The Superman/Batman Adventures."
Fifth, Warner Home Video has never released the Superfriends on video, even though the Superfriends shows have a lot of fans, and they are superior to most of the cartoons which WB has released on video.
What these things tell us is that you don't care about the Superfriends or its fans. We hope that our petition will change your view towards this underappreciated show, and that you will bring it out of obscurity, for a whole new generation to enjoy.
